Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer.

Bushfire preparation

Unfortunately, due to most of Australia's climate, bushfires are a constant risk in the long, hot dry seasons, and North Burnett is no different. Despite most of the region's rains coming in the summer months, the lush grasses and scorching days can quickly cause brushfires.

Fire has long been a recognised threat in Queensland, and the Queensland Fire Service was born in 1860, and the first firefighters were employed in the state in 1889. The first fire legislation - the Act to Prevent the Careless Use of Fire 1865 - was enacted some 35 years before federation.

It is essential in any rural setting to ensure that you are doing the most you can to protect yourself from bushfire. You can do this by seeing to it that you have a bushfire action plan, as well as adequate water storage for fire fighting purposes.

So as to make sure that your water tank can be used for the purposes of both residential or property water storage, and fire protection, Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve.

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions.

A Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition in bushfire simulation when testing was done by the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in partnership with the CSIRO.

After 30 minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a vital feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partially or completely lost.

While a water tank will still prove appropriate for watering gardens or lawns, if it has been exposed to fire, it is highly recommended that you get the tank water tested as soon as possible to make sure that it is still safe for household use.

North Burnett Water Storage Challenges

Whilst rainfall is a welcomed sight all around this dry nation of ours, changing weather conditions causing heavy storms, and modern infrastructure like bitumen and concrete, often results in the build-up of water and flash flooding, which can result in damage to property and the environment.

Installing a rainwater tank and adequate guttering can help alleviate struggling stormwater systems from some of the rainfall, and help to decrease the chance of flash flooding.

In the event of a storm that caused 100mm of rainfall in just 24 hours, it would take just 100 homes with rainwater tanks and sufficient guttering to keep 2 million litres of stormwater runoff from entering storm drains and roads.

The North Burnett Climate

North Burnett has a humid subtropical climate with hot, wet summers and mild, dry winters with average annual rainfall of 935.9 mm.

The average maximum temperature is highest in January , and the average minimum is lowest in July.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference.

Aqualiner Fresh ® antimicrobial water tank liner.

Pioneer understands the importance of clean water, particularly when it comes to drinking water for you and your family. A Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner on the market, proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.

Utilising Sanitized ® technology, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner has the antibacterial attributes of silver woven into the tank liner.

The most technologically advanced, cleanest and toughest liner available on the market, this is an industry-leading product, made up of five individual layers to protect and store your water.

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

Developed for durability and for the sole purpose of water storage, the Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile is also a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive.

The V-Lock profile is designed both for durability and to protect the tank liner, by preventing stretching and wear, and the sheets are engineered to the ideal thickness for each panel, meaning we put the steel where it's required most.

Don't just take our word for it, the concept is so sound, it won an Australian Design Award for its strength and visual appeal.

Australian made water tanks - North Burnett local service

Made up of over 50 local water tank installers across the country, Pioneer's Dealer Direct Network means that we can provide truly local service to all Australians.

A water tank is only as good as the individual who builds it, so Pioneer makes sure that our installers are experts in water tank erection.

In the North Burnett region, your local Pioneer Water Tanks Dealer is The Tank Specialists, who are fully qualified tank installers who also specialise in plumbing, site preparation and water carting.

North Burnett Historical Fact

The first local government in the North Burnett area was the Gayndah Municipality, which was created on 28 November 1866 under the Municipal Corporations Act 1864. On 11 November 1879, the Rawbelle and Perry Divisions were created to serve regional areas under the Divisional Boards Act 1879. A third division, Eidsvold, was proclaimed on 25 January 1890.

On 5 May 2014, the North Burnett Regional Council published their first Local Heritage Register, containing 64 sites out of a proposed 71.
