Maitland Water Storage Challenges

Although rainfall is a welcome sight across this dry nation of ours, changing climate resulting in heavy storms, and modern conveniences such as bitumen and concrete often results in the build-up of water and flash flooding, which can cause damage to property and the ecosystem.

A rainwater tank, along with sufficient guttering can help prevent some of this water from entering streets and stormwater systems, helping lower the risk of stormwater runoff.

In the event of a storm that caused 100mm of rainfall in just 24 hours - like the 2007 storms that lashed Maitland, along with much of the Hunter Valley and Central Coast - it would take just one hundred properties with water tanks and sufficient guttering to prevent 2 million litres of stormwater runoff from entering storm drains and roads.

Bushfire e-book

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions.

Sadly the long warm summers in Maitland leave it, like much of Australia, prone to extensive bushfires. Despite the fact that much of Maitland's rainfall falls in the summer months, this results in lush grasses that can easily ignite on the more arid days.

When the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in partnership with the CSIRO performed bushfire simulations on a variety of water tanks, a steel Pioneer Water Tank held up best.

After thirty minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a significant feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partly or completely lost.

While a water tank will still prove sufficient for watering gardens or lawns, if it has been exposed to fire, it is highly recommended that you get the tank water tested as soon as possible to ensure that it is still safe for household use.

The Maitland Climate

Maitland experiences a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters, and moderate precipitation year round.

The average annual rainfall in Maitland is 837.5 mm, which is spread throughout the year, however severe thunderstorms in the summer months often cause heavy downpours which boost rainfall totals.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference.

Aqualiner Fresh ® antimicrobial water tank liner.

Proven to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in your water tank, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner available on the market, and a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive.

Utilising Sanitized ® technology, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner has the antibacterial properties of silver woven into the tank liner.

The industry-leading water tank liner is comprised of five layers that form the strongest, cleanest and most technologically advanced water tank liner on the market

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile, also exclusive to Pioneer Water Tanks, has been designed with the sole purpose of water storage.

This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for the strength and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, preventing stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.

Don't just take our word for it, the design is so sound, that it won an Australian Design Award for its strength and appearance.

Australian made water tanks - Maitland local service

Made up of more than fifty local water tank dealers across the country, Pioneer's Dealer Direct Network means that we can provide truly local service to all Australians.

In Maitland, our local dealer is Civcon Water Services, who we are proud to recommend to assist with all your water storage needs.

It is essential that our water tank dealers are experts in water tank assembly, as a water tank is only as good as the person who builds it.

Maitland Historical Fact

The Wonnarua People were the first known people of this land. The traditional name for the area where Maitland is now situated was the name Bo-un after a local species of bird.

From around 1816, cedar logging parties from the convict settlement of Newcastle were the first Europeans to stay on the site. Governor Lachlan Macquarie visited the area in 1818, naming it Wallis Plains after Captain James Wallis who was commandant of the Newcastle penal colony at the time.

In 1829, assistant surveyor George Boyle White, officially laid out a township on the site of Wallis Plains and the village was called Maitland possibly in honour of Frederick Lewis Maitland, an officer in the Napoleonic Wars.
