Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer

Bushfire preparation

Thanks to widespread green drought, much of Tasmania is vulnerable to wildfires, due to dry soil and weak vegetation, despite the verdant and lush appearance of much of the state.

It is crucial in any rural setting to ensure that you are doing the best you can to protect yourself from bushfire. You can do this by ensuring that you have a bushfire action plan, as well as proper water storage for fire fighting purposes.

In order to ensure your water tank can be used for the purposes of both household or property water storage, and fire protection, Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve.

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions

The CSIRO performed bushfire simulation tests on water tanks in collaboration with the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC, and the results showed that a steel Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition.

All other tanks tested either melted or cracked, causing them to lose valuable water, however the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water after being exposed to the full 30 minute fire front, which could prove critical to fire fighting efforts.

If your water tank has been subjected to fire, it is essential to ensure that you get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure that it is safe for food preparation or drinking. The water would, however, still be suitable for purposes such as watering gardens or lawns.

An Ongoing Battle with the Elements

The Latrobe climate

The climate in Latrobe is mild, and generally warm and temperate, with plentiful rain the year round.

The town averages over 818 mm of rainfall in the average year, with most of this rainfall coming in the winter months.

Thanks to these conditions, much of the land is used for forestry and agriculture, particularly crop growing and livestock production.

Rainwater run-off and flooding

Rain is appreciated in rural areas all across Australia, especially those experiencing drought conditions, and Tasmania is surely no different.

However; stormwater run off caused by heavy rainfall, particularly in areas with roads and footpaths, can lead to widespread flooding and damage by water that can't escape into the ecosystem.

If a 24 hour period saw a 100mm deposit of rainfall on Latrobe, it would only require 100 homes with fitted water tanks and appropriate guttering to keep 2 million litres of water from entering the environment.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference

Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner

The Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the one and only antimicrobial tank liner available on the market today, and is proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.

The Aqualiner Fresh ® utilises Sanitized ® technology, with the antibacterial properties of silver, interwoven into the water tank liner.

This industry leading water tank liner is comprised of five layers that comprise the strongest, cleanest and most technologically advanced water tank liner on the market.

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile has been engineered for durability, and created with the sole purpose of water storage in mind.

The V-Lock profile is designed both for strength and to protect the tank liner, by helping prevent stretching and wear, and the sheets are engineered to the ideal thickness for each panel, meaning we put the steel where it's needed most.

Don't just take our word for it, the design is so sound, it won an Australian Design Award for its strength and visual appeal.

Australian made water tanks - Tasmanian local service

Pioneer Water Tanks is able to provide truly local service to all Australians, no matter where they are based, thanks to the Pioneer Dealer Direct Network, comprised of more than 50 experienced water tank dealers.

In Tasmania, our local dealer is Statewide Tanks Tasmania, who we are proud to recommend to assist with all your water storage demands.

A water tank is only as good as the person who builds it, so Pioneer makes sure that our dealers are professionals in water tank erection.
