The mean maximum temperature in January 28.7 °C, although temperatures above 35 °C are commonly reached. The mean minimum temperature in July is 3.5 °C and temperatures below 0 °C are recorded 28 nights per year on average.

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer
Bushfire preparation
Australia is world-renowned for having long hot summers, and if you discount the obvious outlier in Antarctica, is the driest continent on the planet. This, along with the life cycle of many native plants, leaves much of New South Wales vulnerable to widespread bushfires.
Victorians know all too well the risks that bushfires pose, as all too often when the east coast is struck by fire, Victoria feels the brunt of it.
In addition to having a bushfire action plan, an important way to get ready for the dry summer months is to ensure that you have adequate water storage to help protect you from the threat of fire, and a Pioneer Water Tank helps provide that protection.
Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve in your tank, to ensure it can be used for both household water storage and fire protection.
The best performed water tank in bushfire conditions
When the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in conjunction with the CSIRO carried out bushfire simulations on a selection of water tanks, a steel Pioneer Water Tank held up best.
After 30 minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a crucial feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partially or fully lost.
While a water tank will still prove adequate for watering gardens or lawns, if it has been exposed to fire, it is highly advised that you get the tank water tested as soon as possible to make sure that it is still safe for household use.

Huntly Water Storage Challenges
Whilst rainfall is a welcomed sight across this dry nation of ours, changing weather conditions resulting in heavy storms, and modern infrastructure such as bitumen and concrete, often leads to the build-up of water and flash flooding, which can cause damage to property and the environment.
Installing a rainwater tank and adequate guttering can help alleviate struggling stormwater systems from some of the rainfall, and assist in decreasing the likelihood of flash flooding.
If we suppose the average roof in Huntly is 200m2, then in the case of a weather event that dropped 100mm of rainfall, it would only need 100 homes to have installed water tanks to keep over 2 million litres of water from becoming stormwater run off.
Huntly Historical Fact
Huntly is a rural township on the Midland Highway, 12 km north-east of Bendigo, but only a few kilometres beyond Bendigo’s urban fringe. The name is thought to have been inspired by Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. The name was first given to the local parish in a map drawn in 1854.
Bendigo was the site of one of Victoria’s largest gold rushes in 1851, but prospecting did not extend to Huntly until some years later. It was used for pastoral and horticultural activities for food for the goldfields.
