Gunnedah Water Storage Challenges

Although rainfall is a welcome sight across this dry nation of ours, changing weather conditions causing heavy storms, and modern infrastructure such as bitumen and concrete, often results in the build-up of water and flash flooding, which can cause harm to property and the ecosystem.

The installation of a rainwater tank can be a great tool in assisting to prevent damaging water run off, and support storm water systems.

If an unexpected weather event drops 100mm of rain in Gunnedah in just 24 hours, it would tank only 100 homes fitted with water tanks to keep 2 million litres of water from running down roads and crowding storm drains.

Bushfire e-book

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions.

Regrettably, due to most of Australia's climate, bushfires are a constant risk in the long, warm summers, and Gunnedah is no different. Despite most of the region's rainfall coming in the summer months, the lush grasses and hot days can easily cause brushfires.

A Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition in bushfire simulation when testing was done by the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in collaboration with the CSIRO.

After thirty minutes of being submerged in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a significant feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partly or fully lost.

After a fire front has passed, the water in your tank can still be used for non-consumptive purposes, like irrigating your gardens, however, it is strongly recommended to get your water tested as soon as possible to ensure your water is safe before using it for food preparation or drinking.

The Gunnedah Climate

Gunnedah has a humid subtropical climate with temperatures regularly rising above 40 °C in summer and dropping below 0 °C in winter, being one of the few Australian towns to experience temperature variations like this.

Its average annual rainfall is 632.9 mm, which is spread throughout the year, however severe thunderstorms in the summer months often cause heavy downpours which boost rainfall totals.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference.

Aqualiner Fresh ® antimicrobial water tank liner.

Proven to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in your water tank, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner available on the market, and a Pioneer Water tanks exclusive.

The Aqualiner Fresh ® utilises Sanitized ® technology, with the antibacterial properties of silver, interwoven into the water tank liner.

The most technologically advanced, cleanest and strongest liner available on the market, this is an industry leading product, comprised of five distinct layers to protect and store your water.

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile, also exclusive to Pioneer Water Tanks, has been designed with the sole function of water storage.

This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for strength and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, protecting against stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.

Don't just take our word for it, the design is so sound, it won an Australian Design Award for its strength and appearance.

Australian made water tanks - Gunnedah local service

Pioneer Water Tanks' Dealer Direct Network is made up of over fifty water tank dealers across the country, meaning we can provide truly local service to all Australians.

In Gunnedah, Pioneer Water Tanks is proud to work with All Seasons Irrigation, a qualified tank installer who are able to assist with all your water storage needs.

It is essential that our water tank dealers are experts in water tank construction, as a water tank is only as good as the person who builds it.

Gunnedah Historical Fact

Gunnedah and the surrounding areas were originally inhabited by Aboriginal Australians speaking the Kamilaroi (Gamilaraay) language. The name of the town in Kamilaroi means "Place of White Stones".

The area now occupied by the town was settled by European sheep farmers in 1833 or 1834. With settlement in the area focused on wool production, Gunnedah was initially known as 'The Woolshed' until taking its name from the local Indigenous people who called themselves the Gunn-e-darr, the most famous of whom was Cumbo Gunnerah.
