Greta Water Storage Challenges

In a country as dry as Australia, rain of any kind is often a welcome sight, however, modern conveniences like streets and footpaths, coupled with changing climatic conditions, can often result in flash flooding thanks to stormwater runoff, which can cause extensive damage.

A rainwater tank, along with sufficient guttering can help prevent some of this water from entering streets and stormwater systems, helping lower the risk of stormwater runoff.

If we suppose the average roof in Greta is 200m2, then in the case of a weather event that dropped 100mm of rainfall, it would only need one hundred properties to have installed water tanks to keep over 2 million litres of water from becoming stormwater runoff.

Bushfire e-book

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions.

Unfortunately, the long hot summers in Greta leave it, like much of Australia, prone to extensive bushfires. Despite the fact that much of Greta's rainfall falls in the summer months, this leads to lush grasses that can easily ignite on the hotter days.

When the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in conjunction with the CSIRO carried out bushfire simulations on a variety of water tanks, a steel Pioneer Water Tank held up best.

After 30 minutes of being submerged in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a crucial feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks evaluated either melted or split, causing their water to be partly or fully lost.

After a fire front has passed, the water in your tank can still be used for non-consumptive purposes, like irrigating your gardens, however, it is highly recommended to get your water tested as soon as possible to ensure your water is safe before using it for food preparation or drinking.

The Greta Climate

Greta experiences a humid subtropical climate - like much of the central coast - with hot summers and mild winters, and moderate precipitation year round.

The average annual rainfall in Greta is 728.8mm, which is spread throughout the year, however storms and downpours in the summer months tend to boost rainfall totals.

In 1864, kerosene shale was discovered. By the 1870s, Greta had four hotels, four churches, a school and schools of arts. By 1907 ten collieries were in operation

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference.

Aqualiner Fresh ® antimicrobial water tank liner.

A Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner on the market, shown to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.

The Aqualiner Fresh ® utilises Sanitized ® technology, with the antibacterial properties of silver, interwoven into the water tank liner.

The industry-leading water tank liner is comprised of five layers that make up the strongest, cleanest and most scientifically advanced water tank liner on the market.

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

Designed for durability and the sole purpose of water storage, the Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile is also a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive.

This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for the strength and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, protecting against stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.

The design was deemed so good, in terms of structural integrity and aesthetic appeal, that it won an Australian Design Award.

Australian made water tanks - Greta local service

Comprised of more than fifty local water tank dealers across the country, Pioneer's Dealer Direct Network means that we can provide truly local service to all Australians.

Pioneer Water Tanks is proud to partner with Civcon Water Services in Greta, a qualified tank installer who can assist with all your water storage needs.

Greta Historical Fact

The Traditional Owners and Custodians of the Maitland area are the Wonnarua people. The Greta area was first colonized by Europeans around Anvil Creek in the 1830s.

The Greta Army Camp, located on the town's outskirts, was opened in 1939 as a training ground for World War II soldier training, and in 1949 was transferred to the Department of Immigration who transformed it into one of Australia's largest migrant reception and training centres between June 1949 and January 1960 as part of the post-war immigration to Australia.

Over 100,000 new migrants seeking a new life in Australia passed through Greta Camp throughout its 11-years in operation.
