Water Storage for Off-Grid Living

Craig Rindfleisch from Moonbah, NSW

Craig is currently building a new, off-grid home on a 63-acre property in Moonbah, New South Wales. The building is half-shed, half-house with an expansive roof area offering ultimate rainwater catchment opportunity.

He hasn’t just bought the block for himself, though – he’s also built two tiny houses that serve as private, secluded off-grid holiday accommodations for people looking to get away from the hustle and bustle (
check out his business here!).

Sustainability and caring for the environment are top of mind for Craig and his business – so he
needed a water source that complimented his goal.

A plumber by trade, Craig knew the importance of a continuous, reliable source of water to feed all homes on the property.

There’s a river that flows throughout his property, but he wanted tank water to feed everything so it was
cleaner, fresher and healthier.

Going off suggestions from others in the region, Craig contacted Pioneer Water Tanks for a quote.

“When I spoke to Monika from Aquaflo I knew exactly who I was going with to install a new tank,” reflects Craig.

“Why have two (smaller water tanks) when you can get one big one? If you’re off grid, it just makes sense – it’s a lot of money up front, but at the end of the day it’s an investment."

“She was polite and very switched on, and there were no silly questions with her – not to mention, never too many!”

Craig was also tossing up whether he should
install two smaller tanks or one large tank. In the end, he decided to go with the latter because as made sense for his off-grid, sustainability-first style home.

“Why have two when you can get one big one? If you’re off grid, it just makes sense – it’s a lot of money up front, but at the end of the day it’s an investment."

Craig purchased a GT130 (130,000L) from the team at Aquaflo, which was installed at the end of November 2021.

As it was being built right next to his hybrid home and shed, and would make up part of the aesthetics of the home, Craig oped to have his tank built in Monument®, one of Pioneer's Colorbond® water tank options.

As a requirement for such a large tank, Craig immediately carted
20,000L of water to store for fire-fighting purposes. Since then he’s had a large amount of rainfall and the tank is filling up nicely – but he’s yet to connect his gutters from the main house, so once that’s complete it’ll be full before he knows it!

“Other tanks just didn’t stand up to the quality of Pioneer’s tank liner and geotextile cloth layer underneath,” says Craig.

“The crew who installed the tank had it up in less than a day – they were efficient and make it really easy.”

Pioneer Water Tanks is proud to supply durable, reliable water storage solutions to businesses like Craig’s all across Australia.
Great work to the Aquaflo team on installing this one!
