Steve from Kilmore, VIC

20 years ago, Steve purchased a bare block in Kilmore, Victoria. On it, he envisioned a family home for his 3 young children.

The block had no connection to mains water, so Steve had some basic questions in regards to establishing a safe and reliable water supply—

“How big a tank do I need? What sort of tanks are on the market?”

Like most home-builders, Steve had a very specific vision for his new house. He wanted to build it himself using hand-picked stone—a goal that some labelled unrealistic.

But Steve says he was only “spurred on by the doubters”.

“As a family we would pick up rocks from our paddocks and other people’s places. We wanted something unique that reflected our family values.”

When it came to choosing a rainwater tank, Steve was just as particular. His goal was to find a solution that would:

1)      Match the surrounding landscape and aesthetic of his soon-to-be new home.

2)      Maximise rain capture and provide great quality water for decades to come.

“I wanted to ensure the highest quality drinking water for our kids and family,” he says.

“But I had reservations about a big tank, such as; ‘would it hold?’, ‘would I get leaks?’”

Luckily, Steve attended the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo, where he met the experts from Pioneer Water Tanks.

After the team listened to Steve’s concerns, he took their advice and purchased a 25,000 gallon steel tank.

The Pioneer tank was poly-lined (a relatively new concept at the time) and featured a mesh filter to ensure high water quality.

Steve says that the great price, quality of materials, and speed with which the tank could be installed helped make his decision even easier.

20 years later, Steve still lives in the house he built with his own two hands, and his initial reservations about purchasing a large tank have certainly been put to rest.

“It hasn’t missed a beat,” he says.

“We are on a small acreage—we run a few sheep, small scale crops, and grow pumpkins for the local markets. Rainwater from the tank waters the chickens and vegie patch.”

“When the kids were teenagers they used lots of water. Now they are all grown up but they bring their grandkids back to visit.”

“Pioneer ticked the boxes—right price, quality materials, fast install, amazing service. I would recommend Pioneer to anyone building a block.”

Steve made a smart decision in contacting an expert for advice on his unique situation.  At Pioneer Water Tanks this is what we do.  We listen to your needs and advise the most efficient method to achieve your goals and objective.
