Tipperary Station in the Northern Territory

The Tipperary Group is an organisation focused on large-scale cattle backgrounding and breeding, cattle agistment, live export quarantine, fodder production, tourism and events and conservation.

The Group comprises of three stations, all located in the Northern Territory: Tipperary Station, Litchfield Station and Douglas West Station.

The stations have a combined land area of 4,000 square kilometres, running 42,000 head of cattle.

David Connolly is the General Manager for Tipperary Group and all three stations. He’s also the newly appointed President of the Northern Territory Cattlemen’s Association.

10 years ago, David and his team decided to purchase water tanks as part of their water development program.

“While Tipperary and Litchfield are well-watered stations naturally, with springs and streams across the property, there always comes a dry time,” he says.

“We wanted to get ahead of those dry times with some permanent man-made water storage. It was part of our water management plan to put tanks and troughs into paddocks where there weren’t any permanent water sources available.

“We’ve had a couple of years of dry just come through this area, but we’re back to a good flow now.”

“Pioneer had the tank we all wanted because of its warranty, build and quality,”

David Connolly - General Manager for Tipperary Group

David has extensive experience with putting water out on cattle stations. He’s used different products, tanks and troughs over the years, and he was looking to settle on a combination that suited the Tipperary Group.

“Pioneer had the tank we all wanted because of its warranty, build and quality,” David says.

He approached Pioneer Water Tanks directly 10 years ago and has had 10 very large tanks installed over the years across the stations.

“Pioneer has always delivered on their promises – when they say they’re going to do something, they always do it.

“We’ve been very happy with the tanks over the years, they’re an excellent product. Pioneer have been a great team to work with throughout the process.”

Since installing Pioneer Water Tanks across the stations, David and his team have been able to improve efficiencies of the operation.

“We’ve since set up garter streams on the tanks so we can keep an eye on them to make sure they’re full – we can look at that data package back in the office, so it’s all very easy.

“The tanks also have level gauges on them, so it’s simple to see how much water is in each tank when driving past.”

Just like Tipperary Group, Pioneer Water Tanks is at the forefront of the current agricultural boom and understands the underlying agricultural commodity fundamentals are undeniable.

We are dedicated to establishing greater efficiencies and processes for livestock producers while improving animal welfare and providing certainty of quality water sources.
