Increasing Water Storage for a New Home

THE PROBLEM

Similar to properties in Gunnedah New South Wales, John and Fiona live on a 20-acre property in Yackandandah, Victoria that they recently purchased in June 2021.

It wasn’t long after they moved into their new home did they decide to increase their on-site water storage capacity.

“We just felt we would have more peace of mind being more water sufficient and drought proofing ourselves,” says John.

There was one existing 90,000L tank on the property for household consumption which had been installed back in 2003. The pair were looking for another of equivalent size and aesthetic.

“The one tank has been adequate for the previous owners, but we felt more comfortable having greater water security.”

That existing tank is a Pioneer Water Tank. Upon moving in they organised for a Pioneer rep to come out and clean the tank.

“This tank was as clean as a whistle inside – there was hardly any debris,” reflects John.

“It’s still in very good structural shape and clean on the inside – that led us to deciding that if the tank is doing really well almost 20 years down the line, then why wouldn’t we just get the same size and brand tank?”

THE SOLUTION

John and Fiona’s local Pioneer Water Tanks dealer is Border Tanks, who installed another 90,000L water tank.

“The staff were excellent – they were very clear when returning emails and patient when talking on the phone and explaining the pros and cons of each system,” says John.

“For example, going through the preparation we had to put in place for the foundation of the tank, and explaining the rainwater catchment system on the tank itself.

“That was followed by a very useful site visit where they answered all our questions and discussed where the tank would go. The installation was also very efficient.

“There was never a point where I was chasing up phone calls from them, which I often have to do with other trades.”
