How Tim Expanded His Water Storage

Tim Simmons from Stoneville, WA

THE PROBLEM

Located on a block of land spanning 5 acres in Stoneville, Western Australia, Tim Simmons was consistently running out of water during peak usage in Summer and seeing too much go to waste during the rainy winters.

Tim and his family still use scheme water as well as rainwater from an existing GT90 (90,000L), but this was overflowing in the wetter months and was too small to stay full during the dry.

They use this water for everything – the household, their pool, plus an extensive lawn and native garden that requires a high level of watering.

Expanding their water tank capacity also allows them to use this storage for fire water tanks, providing better fire protection in the dry summer months.

“I marched down to the premises in Midland and had a long discussion with one of the reps. I liked what I heard, the price was right, and they took the order and passed it on to Watertorque.

“It was always a shame carting in 5,000L of scheme water to fill up the pool or water the garden, when we would see so much overflow from our small tank during the winter,” reflects Tim.

Their first Pioneer tank was installed back in 2013 when they built the house. Tim decided to come back to the brand when he chose to expand his water storage capacity.

“The idea was to connect a larger tank to the existing tank as well as to the roof – which is very widespread,” he explains.

“Then we would see how we’d go during the winter and hopefully get off scheme water all together.”

THE SOLUTION

Back when looking for water storage providers during the house build, Tim says it was the locality of Pioneer that he really liked.

“I marched down to the premises in Midland and had a long discussion with one of the reps. I liked what I heard, the price was right, and they took the order and passed it on to Watertorque.

Watertorque is a proud member of the Pioneer Dealer Direct Network®, and this time round they installed a GT200 (200,000L) back in May to meet Tim’s water requirements before winter hit.

The team connected pipework and electrical works to link this new tank to the existing GT90. The installation was in a very tree-dense area of the block, so it came down to the inch in fitting in the monster tank in.

The team looked at several solutions on how to manage the installation, with the end result being to build the GT200 higher up and link both tanks using a sump pump with float arrangement.

It was a big and somewhat challenging job, but Tim was happy with the outcome.

“Watertorque was brilliant – they always know what they’re talking about,” he says.

“David was absolutely fantastic and they’re a joy to deal with. The team was always on time and no cancellations were made.”

Tim is happy to report that by mid-August, the new tank was already completely full.
