Who is a 40 000L water tank suitable for

The 40 000L water tanks offered by Pioneer are typically not enough to reliably cover a single person's water storage needs, and as such are most often used by suburban or rural households looking to harvest some rainwater or for fire protection, or possibly as a second water tank harvesting water off of a separate shed or garage. The GT40 is Pioneer Water Tanks' 40 000L water tank model, coming it at 37,487L of rainwater storage.

The GT40 is in the size range where steel water tanks are often competing with poly rainwater tanks, usually winning out where people are concerned about the long-term environmental impact of plastic tanks, or looking to use the water tank for fire protection. Sizes larger than the GT40 often a steel water tank starts to become more practical and on occasion more affordable than a poly tank, particularly with the added fire protection a steel tank provides over a poly water tank. Fortunately, Pioneer also has many sizes of rainwater tanks larger than these.

Many people purchasing a rainwater tank may have no access to mains water, or be looking to reduce their reliance on it, so it is important to ensure you have more than enough rainwater harvesting ability, and a large enough water tank for your needs. If you are looking to be completely self sustainable, a tank larger than 40 000L might be better for your needs.

If you're looking to determine if a 40 000L steel water tank is suitable for you, you can consult our water storage calculator (below) to determine how much rainfall you can capture from your roof, and make sure to track of how much water your household is using.

The below table shows the dimensions and gross capacities of the GT40 tank, as well as its neighbouring sizes, the GT30 and GT50 model water tanks.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference

Pioneer Water Tanks have been manufacturing 40,000L rainwater tanks that Australian families can rely on for over 30 years, and continue to strive to remain at the forefront of innovation and quality in the industry.

All Pioneer Water Tanks, regardless of if they're a 40,000L domestic water tank or 400,000L commercial water tank are manufactured in Australia, from Australian Zincalume® or Colorbond® Steel, and Pioneer remains a 100% Australian family owned business. Our dealers - who can be found all across the country - are also locally owned and operated family businesses, and work exclusively with Pioneer Water Tanks.

The innovative Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile is specially designed with water storage in mind, not only providing superior strength and longevity, but also protecting your liner from the stretching and stress that can come with the filling and emptying of a regular corrugated wall panel.

All of the 40,000L water tanks Pioneer manufactures come with our 20/20 Warranty, which is a 20 year conditional structural warranty as well as a 20 year conditional warranty against water leakage.

You Can Never Have Too Much Water

Water Catching and Usage Factors To Consider

Fire Reserve

This is a volume of water that is always readily available in the event of fighting fire.  Commonly this can be up to 20,000 litres.

Irrigation

When looking to irrigate, factors such as water source, harvesting capacity, and usage volume will all need to be considered.

Water Source

Harvesting water from a roof, filling up from a bore or dam will impact the size of tank that will be most optimal for you.

Harvesting Factors

The size of your roof catchment area, in addition to your annual rainfall will determine how much water you can harvest.

Domestic Usage Volume

Having an idea of what domestic functions you intend to connect to your tank and how often each will be used will be advantageous.

Total Volume

It's better to have water and not need it, than to need water and not have it.  It may pay to install a bigger tank to mitigate running out of water.

Water Tank Colours

For many people in the market for a 40 000 litre rainwater tank, they are looking to have the tank installed right next to their house or shed, capturing the water that runs off the roof of their home - and potentially any nearby sheds or garages.

For this reason, the colour of your rainwater tank can be an important factor, and that is why Pioneer Water Tanks offer a range of standard and non-standard Colorbond® colours in addition to a traditional Zincalume® finish.

The range of colours you can have your 40 000 litre water tank in can be seen below.
